PlayStation’s Asad Qizilbash Says Games Will Shift to “Immersive Narratives”

Narratives seem to form a large part of Sony’s future vision

PlayStation Executive Asad Qizilbash, who is head of PlayStation Productions and Head of Product at PlayStation Studios has said the focus of future games will shift from graphics to “immersive narratives.”

Speaking in an interview as part of Sony’s Creative Entertainment Vision, which was outlined during the company’s corporate strategy meeting this month. Qizilbash was asked for his predictions on the future of gaming. In response, Qizilbash said, “The focus is going to shift from graphics or visuals to immersive narratives that resonate long after the controller is set down.”

The focus is going to shift from graphics or visuals to immersive narratives that resonate long after the controller is set down. Regarding PlayStation’s role in this evolution, I see it as a destination defined by community and a commitment to quality, unexpected and memorable experiences.

Qizilbassh also sees future games becoming more personalised. “In terms of gaming’s future, I envision games becoming more personalized due to advances in technology and AI, enabling customized experiences for each player.”

“Narratives” seems to be a key focus for Sony and PlayStation going forward. Asad Qizilbash mentions narratives several times during his interview. “Narratives Everywhere” is also one of the three phases in Sony’s long-term Creative Entertainment Vision. “Together with creators, we aim to create exciting experiences rich in narrative that go beyond imagination.”
